Learn about Live Clipping

See how Live Clipping turns a long live stream into short clips while you’re still live.

Before you start

  • Access: Live Clipping is in private beta. Sign in with your OpusClip account. If your workspace doesn’t have access yet, you’ll see Live Clipping isn’t available for this workspace yet. If you use more than one OpusClip workspace, select Sign out and sign back in to switch.
  • Sources: a live link from YouTube, Twitch, Kick, or TikTok, or a stream address in HLS (.m3u8), DASH (.mpd), RTMP, RTSP, or SRT.
  • Live only: a platform link to a past broadcast or a regular video isn’t recorded.
  • Your content: only record streams you own or have permission to use.

How to use Live Clipping

The Live Clipping Streams page with the live link box, the Start clipping button, and the supported platforms below it. Paste a live link into the box at the top of Streams.
  1. Open Live Clipping. You can also open the Live Clipping intro page and select Start clipping now.
  2. On Streams, paste a live link into the box. A preview of the stream and the clip settings appear below it.
  3. Under Cut every, choose how long each chunk is: ~15 min, ~30 min, or ~1 hr. A chunk ends at the first keyframe after this time, so lengths vary slightly.
  4. Optional: under Overlap, choose +1 min, +2 min, or +5 min to keep each chunk recording for a little longer after the next one starts. A moment that happens right at a cut then stays whole in one chunk. Overlap is Off by default.
  5. Choose the OpusClip settings for every chunk: Clip model, Genre, Clip length, Aspect ratio, Auto headline, and Auto zoom. Optional: in Include specific moments, describe what you want clipped.
  6. Leave Keep recording through drops and restarts on if you want recording to pick up again on its own when the stream drops or goes live again.
  7. Select Start clipping. The first chunk goes to OpusClip after about one chunk length.
  8. Each time a chunk ends, OpusClip turns it into clips. Open Clips to see them, ranked by score, or select View clips on the stream’s card.
  9. Select Open in OpusClip on a clip to edit, export, or publish it.
The clip settings shown after pasting a link: Cut every, Overlap, Clip model, Genre, Clip length, Aspect ratio, Auto headline, Auto zoom, Include specific moments, and Keep recording through drops and restarts. Choose how often to cut and how OpusClip should clip each chunk.

Stop recording

Recording continues until you stop it, the broadcast ends, or your workspace runs out of credits. You can close the page while a stream is recording.
  • To stop and send the chunk in progress to OpusClip, select Stop & create project on the stream’s card. When the chunk is too short to become a project, the button reads Stop recording.
  • To stop without using credits for the chunk in progress, select the red stop button, then Stop and discard. Chunks already sent to OpusClip keep their projects.
  • To record the same stream again, select Start recording on its card.

Credits

Live Clipping uses the same credit balance as OpusClip. Each chunk uses credits when OpusClip creates its project, at about 1 credit per minute recorded. A stream that records around the clock uses about 1,440 credits a day.
  • Overlap minutes are recorded into two chunks, so they use credits twice.
  • Adding a stream, previewing a link, and waiting for a free recorder don’t use credits.
  • When your balance is low, a banner shows about how many minutes of recording are left.
  • When your workspace runs out of credits, streams stop recording and can’t start again until you top up. Chunks already recorded wait instead of becoming projects, and go to OpusClip automatically once you add credits, oldest first.

Find your clips later

  • Clips lists every clip from your streams. Filter by stream, search clip titles, or turn on Top picks only.
  • Activity shows what happened to each stream and chunk.
  • Each chunk also becomes a project in your OpusClip workspace.

Troubleshooting

The stream says Not live or Waiting for the stream to go live

The channel isn’t broadcasting right now. With Keep recording through drops and restarts on, recording starts on its own when the stream goes live.

The stream says Queued or Waiting for a free recorder

All recorders are busy. The stream starts recording when one frees up. Waiting doesn’t use credits.

A clip shows a Recording gap card

The stream’s signal was lost for a while, or part of the recording is missing. Instead of splitting the chunk, Live Clipping inserts a short Recording gap card and carries on.

The card shows Black screen, No picture, or No sound

These notices describe what the source is sending. Recording continues and still uses credits. Stop the stream if you don’t want to clip that part. Paste the full link, starting with https://, rtmp://, rtsp://, or srt://. If the stream says This link is a recording or a regular video, not a live stream, use the link to a broadcast that is live.

You’re out of credits

Top up your OpusClip credits, then select Start recording on each stream that stopped. Chunks already recorded go to OpusClip on their own.

You need help

In Live Clipping, select Contact support (the headset button in the bottom-right corner). Include the stream link and roughly when the problem happened.

Frequently asked questions

Can I close the page while a stream is recording?

Yes. Recording runs on Opus servers and continues until you stop it, the broadcast ends, or credits run out.

Can I change the chunk length or overlap while recording?

Yes. Open the stream’s details and change Cut every or Overlap. The change applies to chunks that finish from then on.

Where do the clips go?

Each chunk becomes a project in your OpusClip workspace. You can see its clips in Clips in Live Clipping, or open them in OpusClip to edit and publish.
